Puppy That Can’t Walk Formed A Strong Bond With Pigeon That Can’t Fly

Can a dog and a pigeon ever be best friend? You would’ve thought it’s impossible until you read this article!

Meet Herman and Lundy. Herman is a pigeon that can’t fly for more than a year due to a neurological injury rendered him unable to spread his wings and soar. Lundy on the other hand is a newborn chihuahua puppy that can’t use his back legs due to a condition known as swimmers syndrome.

This adorable relationship was all started when the duo met through the Mia Foundation, a rescue organization in, New York, that rehabilitates animals with birth defects and physical deformities.

Herman was found idle in the car park of a car dealership over a year ago. They thought that Herman was “on death’s door” until they took a closer look and realized he was suffering neurological damage and couldn’t fly.

Lundy was being sent by his breeder in January to the rehab centre due to its imperfection, weighing only 0.17 KG at that time. He did not have function in his hind legs — a condition known as swimmers syndrome. The founder of The Mia Foundation, Sue Roger, suspected that the pup’s difficulty walking is due to damage to his spinal cord.

He was so tiny he could fit inside a shirt pocket.

One day, Sue Roger decided to put Lundy next to Herman, and surprisingly the pair started to cuddle up together! She quickly snapped a photo of them to captured the heart of us.

Thursday night I took Herman out of his playpen to give him some time out and I put him in a dog bed. Then I had to tend to Lundy so I put Lundy in with him. They just looked really cute together so I took some pictures and posted them to Facebook and the next morning it was crazy

[It’s] unbelievable that a simple, cute picture would go this crazy

The pictures were able to garnered over tens and thousands of likes and comments, and the best part is they were able to brought in over $6,000 in donations!

Although this may seem to be one of the inter-species love story, Roger Sue believes the world is in dire need of these kinds of stories. Yes we definitely need more!

“I think the world needs good stories and when you have two species that basically fall in love, it can only touch hearts.”

Let’s wish Lundy and Herman for a long lasting friendship!
